Hide 03:22
I'm in no shape to fight I let my flame burn low I see my words blow like debris 'Till my voice is stripped from me I am not the wind knocking in the pines Would you take me for a stranger, would you take me in? We all need a place to hide I walk like an empty glass This party's long been winding down I might have gone all night I might have gone all night No one's gonna tell you that your heart isn't haunted Least no one you can trust I couldn't scream when I was wasted and caught up Choked on a notion obscured in the dust

Well I had something to say Right before you looked my way Then I swallowed my own words Another day gone unheard Way, way back when it all died I had never even tried Tricky little chances Jaded static dances Leaving everything implied Through muted smiles And painted skies And troubled eyes Well I think you just might know What everything goes to show Do I know something you don’t? Or you do but simply won’t? Sitting close but far away With nothing else left to say Scenarios gone awry Hiding under gray sky Shrouded in those games we play Through muted smiles And painted skies And troubled eyes And not a thing on this sad earth Compels truth to do his worst Holding back forever more Manifesting settled scores Through muted smiles And painted skies And countless miles And hidden lies Through salutations And goodbyes And troubled eyes

Say friend What are you up to? How did it go today? Hey pal When will you come through? Tell me, what did he say? Wait up Are you strutting or slouching? What's the verdict this time? Hey bud Are there any conclusions That you have come to find? To ease our mind Give me a reason to persist Is there something I missed? Will you walk out the door and understand? Have some master plan? 'Cause I don't Hey you Don't act like you don't know What I am waiting for Yeah, you My long-lost compadre That I've never met before Come now It can't be all that bad At least better than it was Don't fret If it doesn't make sense now But please, call me when it does No new dilemmas Give me a reason to persist Is there something I missed? Will you walk out the door and understand? Have some master plan? 'Cause I won't I'm your best friend but we never spoke We seek relief from the same joke With different names we wander on But we're always singing the same song Always singing the same song

New Town 03:55
I will be here, love, when you get back And I will still sing to you after all my words are dead Waking up next to you in the meantime Might be the first honest song that I ever tried to write I'm not gonna take this for the long ride Not gonna play it back on a dead Tuesday drive We're the late train on a warm night Lost in a new town in the heat of July Out on the street I had to drift away for a long time You spoke into another mouth before I could admit it Breath running in and out like the moon against the tide Might be the first honest song that I ever tried to write

Grizzly Bear 03:06
Saw it in a dream and I could not believe All the things that I used to know So I tried again and I could not get in Too late with nowhere to go In the night, when I close my eyes Get back to the feeling I won't find Like a grizzly bear If you want, you can sleep the winter through And it ain't no shame, it's okay It's only dreaming and it's Never quite the way you remember Never said I'm sorry for all the worry I caused you and me From the first time I met you I was warned I would hurt you With a love I knew in a dream In the night, when I close my eyes Get back to the feeling I won't find Like a grizzly bear If you want, you can sleep the winter through And it ain't no shame, it's okay It's only dreaming and it's Never quite the way you remember Like a grizzly bear If you want you can sleep the winter through I'm making my mind all up I'll let it slip away, I won't regret it When I'm back into the blue now

The Bridge 04:30
We were doomed from the start No work of art for some Snob to behold Not one bad word told Flawless, smooth, sweet And soft to the touch Little did they know It was always too much We did, but we tried You did, but you lied To yourself, as did I While love passed us by Not ready for adieu Let’s see this one through And of course, it just crumbled So painfully on cue But it’s all just water under the bridge I built to get over you I remember your face The first time it graced me Complete with a smile That lingered a while And always disappeared Just before the smoke cleared Until there was no smile Just as I feared But it’s all just water under the bridge I built to get over you And now here we are At act three of this far too long Overdue tale Of how I prevail My coin bought your brain Fake approvals, false gains Until there was no coin Then it all turned to shame But it’s all just water under the bridge I built to get over it All of it

Fly 04:08
Little bird, what’s that you sing? We’re absurd, carrying things? Dragging our luggage all day Toys and things--simple child’s play Do you hate our extra weight? Or simply see hilarity? Are we wrong, caring too much? Teeming with feelings and such? Can we thrive beyond all doubt? Open up, please let me out Searching for that heavy door To cave in and make my haven Open wide I’m on your side Let me through to fly with you Little boy, it’s simple, you see Let go of all your vanity Purge your fear--all worthless hoard Leave your hate and open that door Harness your newfound vigor With deep breath and a wink at death Leave behind sins you defined I know the way, you’ll fly today

Buckle 05:33
Fever bloomed Under the yellow moon And unlocked the door To the violet room Where you pretend to do Everything in twos All the restless moves you use And abuse to get through To what you never knew When you buckle Better be sure you can win the bread When you buckle You know a lover's in your bed You've been here before And your face is the same A shortness of breath And the omission of a name You cry in your cut Like a Caleb or a Cain And ignored the marks on the door You should've been gone before you began Yeah, before the rains came When you buckle Better be sure you can win the bread When you buckle You know a lover's in your bed Never could admit that you'd bitten off More than you could chew Every time (every time) The faith you put in me, I've written off Wish that I could believe it Every time (every time)

Anything will try and catch you in the dark So close around, it's hard to breathe And the last place left has been forgot Might've you done better than what you got from me 'Cause anyone will try and tear you down And throw you out To the ghosts around this part of town And the cold will bite and lick your fist That you shake in the face of a smiling god Where the cars all sleep in their coats of rust There was a place apart but now it's gone And it's filling up out here in the out crowd As we're going down With the ghosts around this part of town I could've held it up but I put it down How many times have you heard the sound? With the ghosts around this part of town

Sound the alarm, I’ve left home I’ve finally killed this dull drone I have arrived, nearly alive And in one piece Far from home base that’s filled with disgrace And plans poor-conceived Send me along on my way Singing a song bright as day I’m coming up, thank those stars of luck The chapter concludes Lord knows I’ve tried, but something inside Still eludes Well I must’ve carried something that mortified me This flight, it seems, has been delayed Tricky to fly in those clouds of grey Charging along, a train long forgone And forgot Sinking to swim with never a whim To rewrite the plot Well I must’ve carried something that mortified me Right through the exit doors of that purgatory I just simply couldn’t stand to see it cower and flee I must’ve carried something that mortified me Now why couldn’t I carry something that multiplied me That blew me right away into unanimity Where can I make a fair trade with no finder’s fee? I must’ve carried something that mortified me
